Position: Billing Specialist

Salary: commensurate with experience & education

Schedule: The Billing Department is open from 7AM-4PM, Monday through Friday. Billing personnel are expected to be in the office & accepting telephone calls during those hours. The Billing Specialist will have a set schedule, either 7AM-3PM, or 8AM-4PM, Monday through Friday.

General Description:

Med-Care Transportation is a growing, small to medium-sized medical transportation company operating mostly in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Our fleet currently serves quite a few Baltimore metropolitan hospitals and many Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs). Our fleet is also growing. To keep up with that growth, we recognize the need to grow our Billing Department as well. It is an exciting time to be a part of our team!

The Billing Specialist will need to be familiar with multiple additional resources and be able to adapt to policy changes, regulatory changes, contractual obligations, and the special needs of some of our contracted facilities & patients. The Billing Specialist should also know when to elevate issues/incidents to Management for Compliance Review. The Billing Specialist must keep him/herself true to the “Truthful & Accurate!” mantra always. Provides customer service and administrative support to the Billing Department. Works within the framework and priorities established to ensure that the goals and objectives of the department are being maintained.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·      Excellent Customer service attitude & demeanor necessary

·      Accurate data entry skills required.

·      One year of experience in a Billing environment required.

·      Familiarity with AllScripts and Zoll RescueNet strongly preferred but not required.

·      Ability to handle stressful environments & concentrate on the tasks at hand.

Education & Experience Requirements:

·         High School Diploma or equivalent

·         One year of relevant medical billing experience required.

o   Preferably one year of experience in medical transportation billing, but not required.

·         Requires minimal supervision.

·         Functions well within a structured environment

·         Effective communication skills

·         Proficient in knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Zoll RNDB

Detailed Billing Specialist Job Description:

 

Main Function of the Billing Specialist is Coding, completing claims, submitting & posting.

 

·         Check email, send, and reply, as necessary. Inter-Office Emails are a vital form of communication between Management and Billing Personnel. Emails may be sent multiple times throughout the workday.

·         Ensure that the CAD system is up to date.

·         While representing Med-Care, you must have the ability and practice multitasking, problem solving, thinking outside the box, prioritizing, and working independently as well as a member of the team. We are a team!

·         Prioritize and triage situations, and notify management either by phone, text, email, etc. *It is important to use the appropriate form of contact method based upon the situation*

·         Correctly follow any change in policies, procedures, SOPs, regulations, etc.

·         Correctly follow any other Instructions relayed by the Management Team to ensure overall efficiency in the Billing Department.

·         Keep up with day-to-day tasks, as well as completing tasks with frequent deadlines & short timelines.

·         Be willing to jump in and assist teammates if they need help, instead of letting the entire team fail.

·         Maintain billing files and purging outdated files via scanning and digital retention.

·          Preparation of original patient files for scanning.

·         Responsible for coordinating all Explanation of Benefits (EOB’s) for storage.

·         Coordination and maintenance of patient files

·         Preparation of patient paperwork and EOB’s.

·         Operate and assist with all office machines (mail, fax, etc.)

·         Any other duties as assigned by management or supervisors.
