Position: Dispatcher

Salary: commensurate with experience & education

Schedule: Dispatchers normally work 12-hour shifts, from 7-7. Dispatchers are on-site & working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.

Description:

Med-Care Transportation is a growing, small to medium-sized medical transportation company operating mostly in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Our fleet currently serves quite a few Baltimore hospitals and since we are minority- and veteran-owned, Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities. Our fleet is also growing in size. To keep up with that growth, we recognize the need to grow our communications center as well. It is an exciting time to be a part of our team!

The successful applicant will work an agreed-upon schedule (Monday-Friday, generally) in Towson, Maryland. The CSR will answer incoming telephone calls on the first or second ring, provide the caller with excellent customer service and either handle the caller’s issue or pass the caller off to the appropriate person. The CSR will monitor the telephones, monitor the fax server, monitor AllScripts, answer basic billing questions & concerns, take over-the-phone payments, and add/update/cancel trips & clients within Zoll RescueNet (RightCAD, as it is known). During periods of down-time, Med-Care Transportation offers an opportunity to make more money by calling our past-due accounts receivable and attempting to get payment for services. Once the CSR has become proficient in the daily responsibilities, s/he will receive information on commission rates & how to go about it.

Once proficient in all aspects of the CSR position, the new dispatcher will be instructed on how to dispatch our limited resources efficiently. Note that a dispatcher must also be a CSR since nights & weekends are normally handled by a single dispatcher.

The dispatcher will need to be familiar with multiple additional resources and be able to adapt to policy changes, regulatory changes, contractual obligations, drive times, rush hours & traffic patterns, estimated times of arrival, and most importantly, delegating responsibilities and knowing when/when not to elevate an issue/incident to management. Dispatching can be very stressful at times, overwhelming at other times, and requires attention to the slightest detail and a strong knowledge of inter-facility and prehospital EMS protocols and DOT regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Customer service attitude & demeanor necessary
  • Effective multitasking is a must!
  • Accurate data entry skills required
  • One year of experience in the call center environment required
