Ambulance Driver – EMR

Primary Function
The Ambulance Driver/Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)’s primary responsibility is to drive the BLS ambulance with a Maryland-certified EMT-B. The EMR is limited to assisting the EMT-B with lifesaving functions and must defer aspects of patient care to the EMT-B. The EMR is responsible for ensuring the vehicle is in suitable condition for the shift. The EMR will complete a vehicle check form at the beginning of the shift and should report any issues to the appropriate manager or deployment clerk.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Drive basic life support ambulances to provide timely transport of patients.
Assist EMT-B with basic skills, most often assisting patients onto and off of the stretcher (but not limited to such).
Comply with all safety guidelines and recognize & promptly report unsafe situations.
Operate assigned vehicles safely in accordance with applicable traffic laws and company policy.
Inspect/ensure readiness of assigned vehicles at the beginning and end of each shift.
Clean and fuel assigned vehicles and care for and maintain, within reason, equipment and assigned apparatus, reporting deficiencies to management and/or the deployment clerk.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) / First Responder certification required
EMR experience preferred
Healthcare Provider CPR certification
Driver’s license with safe driving record
Ability to safely lift up to 300 pounds with partner
Ability to pass a drug screen & background check
Ability to communicate proficiently in the English Language
