EMT-B Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Emergency Medical Technicians – Basic provide basic life support (BLS) to patients with illness/injury per established standards of care and in accordance with the current jurisdictional medical protocols for emergency medical service providers. Those who meet MedCare’s minimum standards for driving also operate emergency vehicles.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
– Provide basic life support to patients within EMT-B scope of practice
– Complete patient care reports and other documentation and submit that paperwork to the appropriate parties while maintaining confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
– Conduct regular inventory of assigned transport unit and fill out a pre-shift inspection form.
– Arrive to work on time & be ready for your assigned shift.
– Operate assigned vehicles safely and conform to all applicable traffic laws
– Ensure readiness of assigned vehicles at beginning and end of shift
– Clean and fuel assigned vehicles and care for & maintain, within reason, equipment and assigned apparatus; reporting deficiencies to management or the deployment clerk.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Maryland EMT-Basic license; Nationally Registered preferred
Healthcare Provider CPR certification
Driver’s license with safe driving record
Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
A command of the English language, both speaking, reading & writing
Able to safely lift up to 150 pounds

EMTs who qualify will also have the opportunity to drive for the ALS units.
